First Aid At Work (Level 3 Award)

This First Aid at Work course covers treatment for a variety of injuries and medical conditions
 

Learners will develop the first aid skills and confidence to help someone who: is unresponsive,  bleeding,  suffering from shock, choking,  feels faint, has hypothermia or heat exhaustion,  has been poisoned, has burns, has a head injury, has an injury to bone or muscle.

Day One: Basics and Emergency Response

  • Introduction: Overview of first aid principles, legal responsibilities, and the role of a first aider.

  • Assessment of the Scene: Learning to safely assess an emergency situation

  • Primary Survey and CPR: Instruction on conducting a primary survey (DRABC) and performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for adults.

  • Recovery Position: Training on how to place an unresponsive but breathing person in the recovery position.

 Day Two: Specific Conditions and Injuries​

  • Management of Seizures: Understanding and handling seizures.

  • Choking: Techniques to assist a choking individual.​

  • Bleeding and Wounds: Methods to control bleeding and manage different types of wounds.​

  • Shock: Recognition and management of shock.​

  • Injuries: Handling injuries to bones, muscles, and joints, including fractures and dislocations.

Day Three: Medical Conditions and Practical Application

  • Common Medical Conditions: Recognising and providing first aid for conditions like heart attacks, strokes, asthma attacks, and diabetic emergencies.​

  • Burns and Scalds: Treatment methods for various types of burns.​

  • Practical Scenarios: Engaging in simulated first aid scenarios to apply learned skills in controlled environments.

Assessment and Certification:

Participants are assessed through practical demonstrations and a written test. Successful candidates receive a certification valid for three years.

The course is highly interactive, with a focus on practicing skills in real-life scenarios to ensure that participants are ready to respond effectively in actual emergencies.
